About Ancient Ghosts and Green Heart Songs

Ancient Ghosts and Green Heart Songs is a personal anthology of poems, songs, hymns, and music begun around 1995 as a kind of journal. The theme is very simple--celebration of my family, my grandparents and parents, my brothers, my husband and daughter, and an expression of gratitude to God for them, and for my Christian Faith and Irish heritage. Some are deeply sad while others are joyful. Some are prayers and others laments, or even protest against abuse. They are all born of love, of pain, of grief, and of profound Faith. The anthology will be complete when I return home...

Buiochas le Dia

"Buiochas le Dia!"

I rise so early in the morn
To see the lark soar high at dawn,
And give thanks to my God that I was born.
Sings my soul: Buiochas le Dia!
Oh, the warmth and the glow of the sun's golden rays
Fills my heart with love on this beautiful day
And I fall to my knees compelled to pray
Sings my soul: Buiochas le Dia!

As the day continues from morning to eve
I'm  immersed in creation to help me believe.
And Your beauty surrounds me in all that You weave.
Sings my soul: Buiochas le Dia!
I see creatures that live in the woods or the sea.
I hear birds as they sing in the sky and the tree,
And it's of Oran Mor that they're singing to me
Sings my soul: Buiochas le Dia!

I'm surrounded by life in the wood and the air
And I cherish our mother, this Earth that we share
For it fills me with passion and vision so fair
Sings my soul: Buiochas le Dia!
Oh the blessings of life in the oceans and streams
And on mountains and hills are the stuff of God's dreams
And they tell me our world is far more than it seems
Sings my soul: Buiochas le Dia!
